Policy & Procedures
Dear Parents,
We are thrilled that you chose to join our Little Schoolhouse Preschool family!
We love parent involvement, so if you'd like to volunteer, please feel free to talk to your teacher about opportunities to help in the classroom, with a class party, or help out in any other way!
We would also love your comments and insight into how our program is doing. We always strive to make our families happy and continually improve our program, so we welcome your suggestions! After all, this is your school too! Thanks for helping to make Little Schoolhouse Preschool the best it can be!
Please read through our policies to become acquainted with how our preschool runs and how you can get the most out of our program.
And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please talk to either your teacher or myself. We’re here to help! You can reach me anytime at Your Phone Number or via email at Your Email Address
Looking forward to a great year with you and your family!

FIRST CLASS DAY OF EACH MONTH: Tuition is due and it's Spirit Day! ©
-
10 MONTHS: Our school runs on a 10-month calendar. As such, the yearly tuition has been prorated into 10 monthly payments to help everyone's budget. The first payment is due at the Meet 'n Greet in August, and the last payment is due the first class day of May.
-
TUITION IS DUE: You will receive a Payment Packet the last class day of the month. Please return it with your tuition inside (cash or checks made payable to Your Name Preschool) on the FIRST CLASS DAY of the month. Please have an adult hand it directly to the teacher. Please do not be late with your tuition. Tuition is considered late if it is received after the 10th of the month unless other arrangements have been made. If tuition has not been received by the 15th, the child will no longer be enrolled in preschool. If there are extenuating circumstances regarding finances, parents should contact the Director to discuss how they might impact their tuition.
-
BILL PAY NOW AVAILABLE: You can also pay via Bill Pay. Please ensure your bank will have it mailed to us by the 5th of every month. Please mail to: Your Preschool Address Here -and- have your child’s name on the account line.
-
SPIRIT DAY: Your child will receive a preschool shirt on their first day. Your child can wear it anytime, but please make sure your child wears it on each month's Spirit Day and on field trips!
SEPARATION ANXIETY: If your child is nervous about going to school and does not want to separate at drop-off time, please let us quickly take your child into the classroom. (It’s kind of like a Band-Aid; you have to say goodbye quickly.) We understand your child may be crying, but most likely your child will calm down within a few minutes and get right into the classroom routine. Before you know it they’ll be excited to go to school each day.
IMMUNIZATIONS: Within 14 days of attendance, each child must have on file either an immunization record showing that he/she is current on immunizations or a signed exemption form.
SNOW DAYS: If the Your School District closes due to inclement weather, we will be closed too. There are no refunds for snow days, regardless of the number of snow days we incur each year. We will text you by 7 a.m. if we close, and you can also check for closures here: School Closures Website Here
EMERGENCIES: Should an emergency arise where we need to send the children home before class ends, teachers will first begin texting parents to pick up their children, and then continue on down the Child Release contacts until someone is available to pickup each child. If a person on the Child Release form other than the parents pick up the child, the teacher will then text the parents back letting them know where their child is.
INJURIES: The children are closely supervised at all times. However, accidents can still happen. Our teachers are trained in and will perform first aid and CPR as needed. Most injuries at school are minor scrapes, bumps, or bruises, and the teacher will notify parents of such injuries at pickup time. However, if a major injury occurs, parents will be notified as soon as the child is receiving the appropriate medical care. We will secure transportation via ambulance if medically necessary (this cost will be paid by the child’s family.)
“24-HOUR SYMPTOM-FREE ILLNESS RULE”: Parents should keep their children home when they are sick. If in doubt, it's best to keep the child resting at home. Parents should immediately notify the Director if their child becomes exposed to or contracts a contagious disease –or- any member of their family has lice or hand/foot/mouth disease. The law also requires that any children exhibiting any of the symptoms below be excluded from school until they have been clear of the symptoms for 24 hours.
-
Watery diarrhea
-
Vomiting
-
Strep throat or illnesses requiring antibiotics (can return to school 24 hrs. after first medicine dose)
-
Eye discharge or Conjunctivitis/Pink Eye (can return to school 24 hrs. after first eye drops)
-
Fever of 100F or greater (can return to school after being fever free for 24 hrs. without medication)
-
Lice or nits in the hair (can return to school after first hair treatment and removal of all nits)
As children need to be in good health to participate, we also ask that children not attend school if they exhibit any of the symptoms below:
-
Severe coughing and/or sore throat or difficulty swallowing
-
Skin rash accompanied by behavior change or previous fever
-
Cries inconsolably
-
Uncontrolled discharge from the nose
-
Infected skin patches (crusty bright yellow, dry, or gummy areas of the skin)
-
Is unable to participate in class activities (feels so sick child lays on floor and doesn’t move much)
Please note: Because of the highly contagious nature of hand/foot/mouth disease, if your child is diagnosed with hand/foot/mouth disease, he/she will not be allowed to return (even if you have a doctor’s note) until all blisters are gone and the Director clears your child to attend. Blisters usually last 2 weeks.
If a child becomes ill at school, the child will be separated from the group (still in the classroom) and made comfortable while waiting to be picked up. The teacher will call the parents and ask them to pick up their child. If they are not available via phone, the teacher may continue down the "Child Release" contacts one by one, until someone is available to pick up the child. If a person other than the parents pick up the child, the teacher will call the parents back and leave a message letting them know where their child is.
If a teacher is unable to teach, we will get a substitute to teach the class.
CLOTHING: Children should wear play clothes and be dressed for the weather (this includes jackets, coats, and appropriate shoes). You should apply sunscreen if needed.
POTTY TRAINING: Children must be potty trained and should bring a change of clothes in their backpack (just in case). (Children in All Day Preschool will keep their change of clothes at the school.)
SNACK HELPER/STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Snacks are provided by the parents based on a 3-week rotating snack schedule as detailed on the Snack Calendar (given to you in your September tuition packet). Your child will receive the snack bucket on the day before his/her snack time begins (i.e. Thursday or Friday) and should return the bucket on the first day of their snack schedule (i.e. Monday or Tuesday) with enough snacks for all the children in their class for that time period. Snacks must be store-bought, and a list of food allergies will be posted on each snack bucket for parents to avoid. To minimize cost, families are encouraged to bring bags or boxes of snacks for our teachers to divide, but they are also welcome to bring pre-packaged, individual snacks if they prefer. Water is provided at snack time, so please do not bring drinks. Refrigerated items may also be brought and stored in the classroom fridge. (All Day Preschool students do not need to bring snacks; we provide them.)
WHAT TO BRING (ALL DAY PRESCHOOL ONLY):
-
Bring at Meet ‘n Greet to stay at the school:
-

-
SMALL blanket and SMALL stuffed animal
-
-
Bring daily:
-
Lunch box (we don’t have room for backpacks). Please pack a healthy lunch (no junk food or sugar; think instead of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein). Add ice pack if needed. Water bottles are provided; please do not bring drinks.
-
-
Bring once a month on Spirit Day for Show & Tell:
-
One non-valuable item. All other personal items should stay home on other days.
-
SHOW & TELL: Your child may bring ONLY ONE item on the first class day of each week. (Please, no valuable items.) All other personal items should stay home on other days.
CLASSROOM HOLIDAY PARTIES: We'll have holiday parties in class for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter. During Christmas we talk about Santa Claus and presents; and during Easter we talk about the Easter bunny and eggs. Parents are welcome to bring storebought holiday treats and/or volunteer during these parties.
BIRTHDAYS: We'd love to celebrate your child's birthday! (Summer birthdays are celebrated the last week in class.) On your child’s birthday week, parents are welcome to bring a store-bought treat for the class to share. We recommend Rice Krispie treats or cookies (cupcakes are welcome, but are sometimes tricky for the children to eat without making a mess!)
ASSESSMENTS: We do three formal assessments (and several informal assessments) each year to evaluate your child's progress with his/her emotional, social, physical, language, and cognitive skills. Parents will get their child's final progress report at graduation and are welcome to discuss their child's progress anytime and during our Parent Teacher Conferences.
FIELD TRIPS & ACTIVITIES: All of our field trips & activities are free, and your entire family is encouraged to come. We do not provide transportation. Please meet us at the location. (See calendar.)
WAYS TO HELP: We are constantly improving our program. When you place an order from one of these fun opportunities below, your child's classroom receives new materials.
-
Book Orders: Start building your child's love of reading each month with Scholastic books as low as $1! Each month, you can order online by registering at: www.scholastic.com/readingclub and using our class code (will be given to you in your Sept. teacher newsletter) so the books will ship for free and arrive at our school in about two weeks. Each time an order is placed online, we receive a free book for your teacher's classroom!
-
School Portraits: Enjoy a hassle-free experience in the comfort at our preschool as our amazing Lifetouch photographer captures your child's personality in beautiful individual or sibling portraits.
-
End-of-the-Year Goodies: Let your child relive all the excitement time and time again with their very own 60-min. DVD (and YouTube link to watch it if you don’t have a DVD player) of all the activities during the year (including graduation) and all their graduation pictures on CD (and pictures emailed to you if you don’t have a CD player)! You can even get an 8x10 class picture and cap ‘n gown picture!
WHAT DID MY CHILD DO TODAY? If you ask your child what they did at school, and all they say is 'Play!" that's okay! Play is your child's way of learning. To get more answers, perhaps ask your child these questions prompts: What song did you sing? What was your book about? What snack did you eat? What did you play with on the playground? Which friends did you play with during centers? Etc.
REFERRAL CREDITS: We give you a $50 referral credit (or check when you’ve graduated preschool) when you refer a new family to us that signs up! Thanks!
"NO" POLICIES: No smoking and no pets anywhere on our property.
BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE: Preschool is a happy place! But kids will be kids, and sometimes they need a little help knowing what behavior is okay at preschool. Please see our 3 levels of behavior management below:
-
"MINOR" BEHAVIOR CONCERNS: Most behavioral issues are minor and are dealt with at school. As such, we generally don’t need to discuss these concerns with parents. We do follow a three-step Conflict Resolution Process below to guide children through conflict at school:
-
We MONITOR the situation to see if they can work it out themselves.
-
If they can't work it out, we OFFER WORDS that they can use.
-
If that still doesn't solve the problem, we REDIRECT them into another activity to diffuse the situation.
-
-
"NOT IMPROVING" BEHAVIOR CONCERNS: Teachers may contact parents if a child has had multiple opportunities to improve his/her behavior and is still having trouble. If the behavior is minor, the teacher and parents will try to find solutions to help at home and at school. In some cases, however, the teacher may schedule a meeting with the Director and the parents to put into place a Behavior Plan. The Behavior Plan differs according to each child's needs, but will need to be followed in order for the child to continue to attend school. Some behaviors that will typically warrant such a meeting include, but are not limited to:
-
A child's conduct hurts or endangers self or others
-
A child intentionally destroys property
-
A child's behavior is unruly, disruptive, or prevents others from fully participating in or benefiting from class activities
-
-
SERIOUS BEHAVIOR CONCERNS: Your Name Preschool reserves the right to immediately terminate enrollment for reasons including, but not limited to, the following:
-
Late or non-payment of tuition
-
Parent adopts an adversarial role with any member of Your Name Preschool or the families it serves
-
Enrolled child exhibits dangerous or uncontrollable behavior
-
Enrolled child hurts, endangers or causes the suffering of any members of Your Name Preschool or the families it serves
-
Parent behaves inappropriately in the school environment or on school grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, language or actions that are vulgar, abusive, dangerous or sexually suggestive
-
Any other action by the enrolled child or family that the Director deems unacceptable
-
Termination for any of these reasons does not entitle family to any reimbursement of any monies paid.
REFUNDS: Enrolling a child into Your Name Preschool reserves their spot for the entire school year. Therefore, tuition is due whether or not the child attends. No credits or refunds are given.
MISSED CLASSES: We allow for up to 2 missed school days per class per school year for teacher sickness. If we miss class 3+ or more days, we will refund your tuition on a prorated daily rate for day 3+.
FEES:
-
Returned Check: $20 per check (After 2 returned checks, we will only accept cash.)
-
Late Payment: $10 if paying after the 10th of the month
-
Late Pickup: $5 for every 15 minutes
